Navigating mechanical royalties and securing funding are crucial steps for independent creators and labels pushing the culture forward. That is why we are thrilled to share that CAPASSO has officially opened its next Corporate Social Investment (CSI) funding cycle—an incredible opportunity for the South African music community to secure financial backing for impactful projects.

Following a highly successful inaugural cycle that funded 10 diverse initiatives spanning education, live events, women in music, and community development, CAPASSO is doubling down on its commitment to the long-term growth and empowerment of the local music industry.

“Our first CSI cycle showed us the impact that focused, community-led investment can have across the music industry,” says CAPASSO CEO Jotam Matariro. “We are energised by what our members achieved and are excited to open the door once again for new proposals. We encourage our members to come forward with projects that reflect the spirit of education, empowerment and growth that this initiative was built on.”

Successful applicants can receive grants of up to R200,000 per project. In return, recipients must publicly acknowledge CAPASSO’s support and provide a detailed post-project report alongside expenditure receipts.

Are You Eligible?

To be considered for the grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be a registered CAPASSO member (either directly as a composer or through a publisher member; publisher members are also welcome to apply directly).

• Have earned a minimum of R350 in royalties through CAPASSO.

• Be based in South Africa.

• Fully disclose any additional third-party funding received for the proposed project.

Approved Funding Categories

Your project proposal must align with one of these four core pillars:

• Educational: Accredited training programmes, music workshops, and specialized institutional training that uplifts the broader industry.

• Events: Ticketed live experiences, concerts, and music festivals.

• Women in Music: Initiatives designed specifically to support, promote, and empower women working within the music sector.

• Community Development: Projects aimed at uplifting previously disadvantaged communities (these do not strictly have to be music-related).

How to Apply

All applications will be reviewed by an independent CSI Committee made up of seasoned music industry professionals. To submit your pitch, you will need:

1. A completed official application form.

2. A comprehensive project proposal that clearly outlines the project itself, the specific need for funding, and exactly how the grant money will be utilized.
